Northern California was heating up this weekend and I don’t just mean the temperature. Driving from Monterey Bay, California expecting another great weekend of paintball with our friends from Washington, DBS Kids. I left at 4:30 Saturday morning headed for Sacramento on another long drive. I guess I didn’t get the memo but Oakland Blast, Sacramento XSV, and San Francisco Explicit would be battling one another all weekend at Capital Edge Paintball Park. Getting ready for Vegas seemed to be a pretty big priority this weekend because there were plenty of 7-man games being played.

CEPP offers a really cool set up at their facility where all of there tournament level fields are on the way to all of the Recreational fields and most of them can either be viewed from the parking lot and the players areas. Recreational and tournament players were glued to the action, watching in awe as some of the top pro paintball players in the game battled it out in the 7-man format.

I’m pretty sure at this moment I can confirm that Ben Heywood, snake player for Nor Cal Fuzion, will be joining the NPPL Pro division and playing with San Francisco Explicit.

Greg Siewers also seems to have made the move over from San Francisco Explicit to Oakland Blast. There is no reason to believe that this move will affect him playing with Chicago AfterShock in the PSP.

I’m going to be spending the next few days trying to figure out how I am going to get to Vegas this weekend, so that I can see how the final event of the NPPL finishes up. This whole year has seemed to be a pretty crazy one; the good came with the bad. With only a few events left teams are going to be eager to finish on top.

PPB Exclusive: GI Sportz New Paintball Loader

Pro Paintball insiders have gotten their hands on a new paintball product from GI Sportz 2011 line up. Some of you may recall that this loader was hinted at during the 2009 PSP World Cup, however, not much more was known at the time. As the 2010 paintball season has progressed we have reported on several changes from the GI Sportz/Milsim organization, specifically the launch of a 68 caliber line of paintballs, a potential new paintball goggle, and the hiring of Pat O’toole and Steve Rabackoff from Procaps. Just hours ago one of our insiders came across a pre release GI Sportz paintball loader. Rumors indicate that this loader will be available in 50 and 68 calibers, just like their paintballs. Insider gossip indicates that this loader will be unveiled at the 2010 PSP World Cup.

Here is what we know:

• Official launch will be at PSP World Cup, 2010.

• Focused on the high end market segment; will be competing with Empire Prophecy and DYE Rotor paintball loaders.

• Focused on speed, consistency and efficiency.

• Utilizes (2) 9 volts batteries.

• Body opens similiar to a rotor.

• Early impression: this thing feeds like a champion!

(What DOES Happen in Vegas?)

Well let’s see. Four teams separated by two points. The possibility looms that we will have a series points tie when the smoke clears. It’s that close. An earmark of this season in the NPPL Pro Division has been the minimal amount of practice on the layouts.

This lends itself to just what we see. Experienced Pro rosters that adapt quickly sit atop the leader board. Infamous, Dynasty, and Impact all have experienced seven man players who have been playing the seven man game for a long time.

Then there’s Damage. Tampa Bay wasn’t built specifically for the seven man game. It was a team that came into being to win the Race to format. But here they are two NPPL wins under their belt and pressing hard for the series win.

A third win would give Damage the championship outright. The same goes for Infamous who currently leads by one point. Beyond that it gets tricky.

How the NPPL Rules handle a Series ending tie remains to be seen.

Possible Dark Horse?

With the Portland Naughty Dogs strong showing in DC, we like their momentum. We also liked the fact that they would be focused only on Vegas. However, that changed this past week as the Dogs will make a showing in the Pro Division at Cup.

Another possibility might be Oakland Blast, but Bob’s boys have dealt with win some internal issues all season. Will either of these two teams play the spoilers role? Is there another team biding its time, looking to wreak havoc on the final event of the seven-man season?

The Wild Card

The wild card factor in Vegas is three-fold. On the one hand the four team all vying to win the NPPL Pro Season Series are in the mix for World Cup two weeks later. The team(s) who is able to focus and then shift gears should fare well.

A substantial number of players are involved in the second wild card. These players from the top four teams will be playing in Paris the week before Vegas. How all the travel and fatigue might affect individual players is hard to gauge.

A final wild card factor is the possible implementation of an altered format. This format called S7 was unveiled in DC for the All-Star Game. It’s a best of three with a time limit between games. While it would have a slight resemblance to Race-to, it would remain to be seen which team adjust the best.

Best Bet

One thing is for certain, its Vegas and each team will play with the hand that dealt them. From Infamous successive climb this season to Tampa Bay’s hard fought back to back tournament wins, the margins are tight.

Dynasty has added even more quality to their roster and we think an advantage in the end. The odds seem less favorable for Damage winning a third event, but we don’t count them out. Impact is also striving for a first ever Pro Series Championship.

With so much riding on the outcome, the play should be fast and furious. We are going to ‘call’ Infamous over Dynasty in the Finals.

Dynasty Impact Wins 2010 Overall Millennium Title

October 1st-3rd in Paris was the final weekend for the 2010 Millennium season. Dynasty/Impact dominated the first two tournaments taking home two first places. London the 3rd event didn’t go as well and the team ended up going home in 5th. Paris went a little better with the team taking 3rd which was good enough to secure the series title for the Super Team. SK Moscow took home first in the series finale. Winning in Europe is nothing new for the boys from Dynasty. 2o10 is the 3rd time that Dynasty or a Dynasty combo team has played a complete Millennium series. Dynasty played the 2004 season and won the overall title with two wins, and in 2009 DC Arsenal Dynasty took home 2nd overall with two wins.

Rumor of the day: Naughty Dogs

Rumors are circulating that the Seattle Naughty Dogs will be competing in the 2010 PSP World Cup. Sources familiar with the team have confirmed that several Naughty Dogs have mentioned their interest. These rumors were further confirmed this afternoon with the Naughty Dogs signing themselves into the APPA database as a team competing in the PSP World Cup. No word yet as to whether the Naughty Dogs plans to compete in the PSP pro paintball division during the 2011 season. Attempts to reach the Naughty Dogs have gone unanswered at time of publication. Stay tuned.
