Monday Report / The Philly American PRO spot
Johnny “Two Beer Grier” is poised to fill Jason Bornstein’s spot on the Pro Bushwackers team. Grier started the season out with Aftermath (D1) and has since been working his way up the Bushwacker ladder. Ron Kilbourne has been known to make last minute swaps so anything is possible at this stage in the game.
A few weeks ago we mentioned that Frank Connel was working on selling, then filling, and now, effectively “giving away” the pro slot Philly once commanded. Unfortunately for Frank, and the numerous teams hes been courting, the NPPL has yet to announce anything related to the relegation (or the oft rumored lack therof) and has ultimately hampered Franks efforts in selling off the spot.
The latest in the Philly drama is that NXE was given the spot to do what they wish. Rumors have been circulating that Bosch and his NXE Factory team were going to fill the shoes of Philly’s finest and make a run for it. Apparently the NXE guys have decided to step it up a notch and take on the top teams. Word has it that if the NPPL ends regulation (as has been rumored) that Frank will then sell the spot off to the highest bidder. With that said, the team will be playing as Pittsburgh All Americans and should prove for some entertaining games.
Several teams have been rumored to be on the market for NPPL pro spots in 09. Most plausable however, is Art Mendoza’s Miami Rage D2 squad. The team has been making quick work of the lower divisional teams and augmented by some seasoned Pro’s, the team should make for a good showing in the pro bracket if everything works out. Word has it that the team is fully funded by an NFL star player with some deep pockets. The 08 roster of Miami Rage Pro squad has made a surprisingly weak showing this year and is set to give up the spot come the end of the season.
